Using Private Health Insurance at Core Physio
At Core Physio, we want your appointment to run as smoothly as possible. Please read the information below before attending your first session if you plan to use private health insurance.
Before your appointment
Please bring along any relevant referral letters, scan results, imaging reports or medical notes that may help your physiotherapist understand your condition.
You may be asked to expose the area being assessed or treated. For example, if you are attending with a shoulder problem, your physiotherapist will need to see and assess your shoulder movement. Please wear comfortable clothing or bring shorts, a vest top or clothing you are happy to move in.
Payment is required at the end of each session unless your appointment has been pre-authorised by an accepted health insurance provider.
Using private health insurance
Core Physio works with a number of private health insurance providers, including:
Before booking, please contact your insurer directly to check that physiotherapy treatment at Core Physio is covered under your policy.
Every insurance policy is different. Your insurer may require a GP referral, consultant referral or pre-authorisation before your first appointment. It is your responsibility to check this with your insurance provider before treatment begins.
What we need from you
If you would like to use health insurance for your physiotherapy treatment, please provide the following before your first appointment:
- Your insurer name
- Your membership or policy number
- Your claim or authorisation number
- Any treatment limits, such as session limits, monetary limits or excess payments
- Confirmation of whether you need a GP or consultant referral
Appointments attended before we receive the correct insurance details and authorisation may need to be paid for privately and may not be refundable.
Important information about insurance payments
Although your insurer may authorise treatment, your policy remains an agreement between you and your insurance company. Core Physio cannot be held responsible for any shortfalls, excess payments, declined invoices or policy restrictions.
Your insurer may not pay, or may only part-pay, for treatment if:
- You have an excess to pay
- You have reached your policy limit
- Your insurer has only authorised a limited number of sessions
- Treatment was not authorised before your appointment
- Your employer or insurer still needs to approve the claim
- Your policy does not cover the service booked
- Your insurer does not allow more than one appointment on the same day
If your insurer does not cover the full cost of your treatment, you will be responsible for paying any outstanding balance directly to Core Physio.
What insurance may not cover
Most private medical insurance policies only cover physiotherapy treatment when it has been authorised in advance.
Insurance may not cover:
- Missed appointments or late cancellations
- Sports massage
- Acupuncture or dry needling
- Shockwave therapy
- Strength and conditioning sessions
- Performance rehabilitation sessions
- Assessments not included in your policy
- Taping, supports, rollers or other equipment
Please check directly with your insurer if you are unsure whether a specific service is covered.
Booking with insurance
Please let us know that you intend to use private health insurance when making your booking request.
To help avoid delays, please make sure you have your membership number, authorisation details and any policy limits available before your first appointment.
